what is a good starter camera for sports photography?
I have grandkids in school sports and would like to get some good pictures.
Thanks for the suggestion. what about the Canon rebel 450D? Right now the sport is track and it is both inside and out.

I use a Nikon D300 and usually the 18-200 VR lens for kids sports. You could start with a D5000 (or maybe even a D3000) and probably the 55-200 VR lens would be adequate.

It depends on whether these sports are held outdoors during the day or indoors.
If they are outdoors in bright lighting, an ultra zoom may be adequate (see Best Ultra Zooms in the link).
If they are indoors, you may well need a DSLR with tele lens (see Best Family DSLRs) as the previous poster suggested. vuxes
